The holiday season has arrived! What better way to get into the spirit than to check out seasonal activities in your own neighbourhood? The Tri-Cities area has multiple Christmas activities that are sure to get you in the spirit all month long. Whether it’s losing yourself in a festival, enjoying a display of lights, or celebrating a classic Christmas tradition, there’s something for everyone in Tri-Cities this season!

Festivals and Fairs

Christmas is the perfect time to check out a winter festival in the Greater Vancouver area! So bundle up the whole family and head to Leigh Square in Port Coquitlam! There, you can celebrate the holidays all the way until the end of December at Winter in the City. Looking to branch out from the shopping mall to buy your Christmas gifts this year? The Winter Artisan Market is a great place for local BC products, baked goods, and homemade food products to wow your party guests this year! The festival also offers face painting, craft making, and entertainment, so there’s something for each member of the family. You may even spot the man in red himself, as photos with Santa are offered daily!

Winter in the City isn’t the only festival in Port Coquitlam this year. Until January 4th, the 6th annual Christmas Tree Festival is a great way to get out for some fun. Grab your pals and participate in the scavenger hunt for the chance to win exciting prizes and spread some cheer! Forms for this event can be downloaded here. Don’t forget to vote on your favourite Christmas tree before the season’s over!

The Beauty of Christmas Lights

Christmas wouldn’t be complete without marvelling at a light display or two! Don your favourite holiday scarf and pay a visit to Lafarge Lake. Thousands of dazzling lights illuminate the 1.2 km loop all the way until January 20th. For the ultimate festive evening, don’t miss Jingle Bells Night on December 21st! You and your family can join in with carolling groups as they stroll along the lake singing your favourite Christmas classics. Even pups are welcome on leash, so this is truly a special activity no one is left out of!

The Port Moody Winter Solstice in the Watershed Lantern Walk is another great way to light up your holiday season! On December 21st from 5pm onwards, create a one of a kind lantern and join fellow residents on a musical walk through Noons Creek Hatchery. After the walk, participants are encouraged to cozy up by the fire and enjoy holiday treats and beverages in the beauty of nature. What could be a better way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holidays, than enjoying peaceful quality time with loved ones?

On Christmas Eve, don your warmest threads and head to Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex to ice skate all afternoon before the big day! From 11am until 3pm, for regular admissions prices, you can skate your heart out with friends and family.

There’s something about trains that really gets people in the holiday spirit. This year, on Tuesday, December 18th, head down to 300 Ioco Road before 5:20pm to catch the arrival of the CP Holiday train, decorated with thousands of holiday lights! The purpose of this event is to raise money and donations for local families in need. Why not enjoy a fun night out while also giving back this Christmas?
