Summer is just around the corner! Which means summer cook outs, long days in the sunshine, and, one of our favourite activities… swimming! Swimming is an awesome activity to do with the whole family, whether you have small kids or big, is a great way to spend an afternoon with friends, and even a favourable solo activity for cooling down on hot days! Keep reading for a list of the best places to take a dip in the Tri-Cities area!

Lake and Ocean Swimming:

Buntzen Lake:

There’s nothing quite like jumping into the refreshing water of a lake, and Buntzen Lake is one of the best in Port Moody. It’s a great spot for families, as it has a beach area with a shore for tots and their parents to wade in, and also ample opportunity for swimming far out! Not to mention an abundance of picnic spots when you want a break from the water! Buntzen Lake also has a great dock for getting those maximum rays and perfect for impromptu plunges in the water!

Sasamat Lake:

Sasamat Lake is another awesome swimming lake for families, because of the shoreline that makes it easy for little swimmers to wade in and out. The sandy shore is also great for tossing a frisbee, making sandcastles, laying down a blanket, and more! In the summertime, there’s even a concession stand for treats and snacks! The recipe for a perfect afternoon. Be advised: it does get busy, so arrive early for best results. ‘

Old Orchard Park

A short walk from Rocky Point Park, Old Orchard Park is an ideal quiet spot for a dip in the ocean! This Port Moody spot is typically less populated than the other outdoor swimming hot spots in the Tri-Cities, so it’s an ideal space to relax, unwind, and get away from the stresses of everyday life! Complete the 3km loop to Rocky Point Park for some added exercise too!

Pool Swimming:

Lakes aren’t the only way to get in an outside swim in! There are plenty of outdoor pools in the Tri-Cities area perfect for a hot afternoon spent outside!

Robert Hope Outdoor Swimming Pool

Located in Port Coquitlam on Lamprey Drive, the Robert Hope Outdoor Swimming Pool is a great way to spend a family day at the pool! They always have a lifeguard on duty, so parents can sit and read their books or relax (still keeping an eye on their children of course!), without having to get in the water if they want, so it’s a fun afternoon for all! This awesome pool is nestled in the trees, so it’s a great spot to find some shade for a picnic lunch, too!

Blue Mountain Park Wading Pool

Another great outdoor spot for you and the littles in your life, the wading pool in Blue Mountain Park is a great way to spend a hot afternoon. Not only is there a wading pool, the park also has a splash pad and water park for running through and splashing around! Parents can keep a watchful eye on their kids while catching some afternoon sunshine. A perfect set up!

Sun Valley Park

Another perfect spot for an incredible family day, Sun Valley Park is another Port Coquitlam favourite with a wading pool and a splash park, along with a playground and beautiful grassy knolls. There couldn’t be a more perfect spot for a picnic and an afternoon of summer swimming!

Not only is swimming great exercise, and a way to keep cool, but a wonderful family activity! Head to any one of these great spots this summer to cool down and have a fun swimming expereience! Float on, Tri-Cities!
